January 23-- Looks like No announcement tomorrow

Things are trickling out, but now it appears the Redskins will not name Jim Fassel their head coach tomorrow as has been widely reported..
The Skins have interviewed Jim Zorn to be their offensive coordinator, however that interview does not appear contingent on any specific head coach and Zorn is not a candidate to be the team's head coach according to sources..

The team continues to issue no comments in regard to the coaching search, but some sources I believe think Gregg Williams is not out of the running to be the head coach and indeed any decision may wait a couple more days..

Again, we'll see tomorrow.. The Skins like the flare for the dramatic, so maybe we'll have something tomorrow, but right, it appears as if the team still has no offers out..

OK men,.

I just saw this article on ESPN, by Mortenson and Pasquerelli. (I may have misspelled their names, but ESPN called you Weinsteen, so this seems fair.)

That story frustrates me. DC is home to Wilbon, Kornheiser, and Larry Michael, not to mention you, and if there are going to be anonymous sources "close to the selection process" (which make the whole article sound like it was by the Daily Mirror about Princess Diana or some such), shouldn't they be able to find a high-profile journalist close to home that they're going to leak to? Why are they going to make the long-distance calls to Bristol when they could leak to five-star sports media right in their backyard??

It speaks of disloyalty to me. I am offended by this entire state of affairs.

It is sad to watch the continued demise of my once proud Redskins under the boy wonder and his lapdog Vinny. Sally Jenkins was spot on and we will get another 32-32 nightmare until a general manager is hired and he stops bringing in retread losers like Fassel. For those of us who have bled burgundy and gold all our lives it is is painful to watch the boy wonder pretend to know football. Do we need any more proof than news a new offensive coordinator is being hired while we still have one? Classless. Besides, what coach would allow someone else to hire that job for him? Hello, another lapdog. I wished I did not care so much for my Redskins...what is going on is just painful to behold.

Bram,

I think I speak with some recent experience from "Coaching Searches" here. I'm a West Virginia University Alumnus and I can say that there are eery similarities to the way the press played up the search for Rich Rodriguez Replacements and the way the media is covering the search for the Redskins Head Coach.

A word of advice. Unless it comes from a member of the Redskins organization (Snyder and Vinny primarily), or from someone on Redskins radio (Larry Michaels or Bram Weinstein). I would take everything you hear with a grain of salt. Every time a new potential candidate emerges Redskin fans seem to be driven up and down the roller coaster of emotions as this guy must be the leading candidate.

Here's the bottom line, we will know who the head coach is when Dan Snyder makes it final. There is no reason for us as fans to get our tails in a knot, before anything is officially confirmed by the Redskins Front Office. Again, having been through this drama with WVU, (First it was Doc Holliday, then Terry Bowden was being pushed for, then false rumors about Mark Mangino (Of Kansas) and a couple other smaller rumors, then the word that we were talking to Jimbo Fisher (OC at Florida State), off and on with this and it didn't end until WVU won that Fiesta Bowl, and finally announced Bill Stewart the head coach the next day.

So take it from someone with a bit of experience on this, take a deep breath, and add a pinch of salt to every reported "rumor" about who Dan Snyder is going to hire. It has only been about two and a half weeks now, and there is no reason to get so bent out of shape about it. Dan Snyder is going to hire whom he feels is the best candidate, let's wait until he announces someone before we critique the hire, or start sounding an alarm please.

Not that Bram needs help here but...Agents and teams like to by pass local media and leak stories to national media for a couple of reasons.

1. The national platform gives their client/team instant press around the country.

2. Playing local favorites to members of the media does not help them in the long run. Going to national guys like Mort or John at ESPN, Jay at FOX gives the team or agent cover if the deal goes south.

About a week ago Jason Garrett's agent let it be known to ESPN that the Ravens put a contract offer on the table, then Jerry Jones went to his guy at ESPN and let the world know he would match any offer. In the end Garrett got his money in Dallas and the national press played a role in making it happen.

So the trend is to "leak nationally." However there will still be some local leaks from time to time and I have faith in my man Bram that he will get his fair share.

Bram,

Can you do something about Larry. He is the biggest idiot I've ever heard on the radio. Stop letting him push you around. I used to think you were a tool. What I've found is Larry Michaels is the tool. The Redskins should NOT hire Fassel, he would be an awful head coach. Really he has as much experience as Gregg Williams and would not change as much so continuity could be kept with the team. Snyder is an idiot

Aah, Jim, all good points.. I'm staying on top of it and maybe this one will slide my way, but the bottom line is I won't report anything as fact unless I know it is fact.. Basically, I'd rather be right second then wrong first..
I'm about as up to speed as anyone right now and I'm staying on top of it!
