January 12-- Williams expected to interview

Gregg Williams is expected to get a formal interview as early as today and would be the third head coaching candidate to interview since the resignment of Joe Gibbs..

Williams has remained silent during the process declining interview requests as the team continues it's search to replace Gibbs..

I haven't gotten 100% confirmation on this, but it is believed Dan Snyder and Vinny Cerrato were in Arizona yesterday to interview former Skins offensive line coach and great Russ Grimm who is currently an assistant head coach with the Cardinals..

The Skins do still have to comply with the Rooney Rule having not publicly interviewing any minority candidates as of yet.. Colts assistant head coach Jim Caldwell is a candidate for that, but he might be in line for the Colts job should Tony Dungy retire after this season.. D-line coach Greg Blatche could be a long shot candidate.. Former Skins defensive assistant, Colts D-coordinator Ron Meeks is another possibility..

Belief is Williams remains at the top of the list of candidates, but nothing seems final, and the team is being extremely cautious about allowing information about the search filter out..

OK men

Bram, is a GM VERY unlikely? And what is your thought on that?

I think that Gregg would be nice...but if we didn't host a playoff game next year, we might not ever under the current set up.
I like the idea of Mora...seems like a "players" coach, and might persuade DeAngelo Hall to come. I could also see a "chad Johnson" type free agent as well. This would allow us to draft a young DE and OL.

If johnson or Hall don't work, I guess we speculate on Briggs some more.

Although all of this seems kind of circumspect at best until we figure out who the gaffer is.

I don't know much about Gregg Williams except that he has reportedly (and repeatedly) said he was happy to be coaching again as an assistant, rather than doing all the garbage that goes with being the Head Coach. This year, he got to work with players, work on game planning, and work during the game on making calls without having to worry about press conferences, answering questions, and being the face of the team.

If he does wind up with the Head job, though, not only does he have the PR monkey work to deal with, but he'll have GM duties and possibly Team President duties, which he didn't have to deal with at Buffalo.

I lay it out like this to suggest that if they -do- go with Gregg Williams, you can imagine him wanting a GM -- whereas if someone else comes in, it will probably be some high-profile hotshot, and not only is it easier to imagine that they will blow up the coaching staff, you also know that he's going to want to keep all the control.

So, for the future of the team, even if you think they'd be better ultimately with a Cowher or a Carroll, going with Gregg might mean that the future of the team involves a GM. A year of Williams might change everything.

NO GM coming.. Snyder/Cerrato and the new coach will be the front office, at least that's how the tea leaves are reading at this point..

Ruffin-- Thanks for the grammer check up, I need those!

As for Gregg, now that the Colts are out, we should know what Dungy's future is soon, which means Jim Caldwell will either interview or likely take over as Colts coach..
There remains a process for the Skins to go through before hiring anyone
