October 30-- Gibbs on Redskins Radio

Joe Gibbs told Larry and myself during Redskins radio that he asked his starters if they wanted to come out of the game during the NE blowout, and they all told him “No.” So he let them go back into the game and play out the final moments despite losing 52-7..

Gibbs said he wouldn’t want his team to get caught up in any kind of retaliation during a game that is getting out of hand.. Asked directly about the “disrespectful,” manner in which the Patriots ran up the score, Gibbs stayed even keeled and continued to suggest the team need not get caught up in whether feelings were hurt, but more keep it’s focus on not being in that position again..
Should the team have reacted differently? Good question..

The Redskins are attempting to figure out why they have had a continuing issue with hamstring and groin injuries this season.. They have brought in a specialist to talk with the players about the risks.. They also had all of their players flexibility tested.. Gibbs also admitted that he could be “overworking his players.” And the practice regimen has been decreased in recent weeks due to it.. He said it “blows his mind” how many upper leg injuries the team has had.

I called in to the radio show yesterday and asked Coach about how he chooses core Redskins guys with high quality character. I think its an attribute in professional sports today that is extremely overlooked. I'm so proud of our guys, for the most part they really seem like great people and that's a tribute to the way Coach builds teams. We really have a group of guys we can be proud of on and off the field. Too bad nobody ever wants to talk about that, especially when these guys have such a tremendous influence on youngsters nowadays.

Lee, I agree. It's a definite plus to have players who stay out of trouble -- so called character guys. But that's a given, in my book. They also need to perform; they need to win more than they lose given the resources invested in the team. I'd like to see BOTH! :o)

The Patriots are NOT running up the score, they are simply doing what they are PAID big BIG dollars to do, which is play football on BOTH sides of the ball for the ENTIRE 60 minutes!!!The Redskins have yet to do that this year. The defense was NOT prepared to play and appeared to be simply going thru the motions. Gregg Williams is all HYPE and no substance and should be FIRED!!!!

I like the character on the team, but wins and losses pay the bills.. I'm not suggesting go find some thugs, but the bottom line can never be, well, he's a good guy..
