April 24th-- Lloyd Signs deal, Off-season update

The Redskins have signed Brandon Lloyd to a new seven year contract.. Lloyd's wife is pregnant, she is due in a couple of weeks, he said the first thing he will buy for the baby with his new money is a house...

Joe Gibbs said the Skins are not actively in any discussions about moving into the first round of the draft this weekend.. The only first day pick the Skins have is a second rounder (53rd) overall.. They have a 5, 3 6 round and 2 7th round selections as well..
Gibbs couldn't say which direction he thinks the team will go in the second round outside of saying certain positions they wouldn't bother with, i.e. receiver and quarterback..

Gibbs did not throw out the possibility of moving up but suggested it is unlikely.. The team is in need of depth and likely will use the bulk of their picks on O-line, D-line and potentially LB.. Gibbs downplayed the necessity to find a replacement for LaVar Arrington saying resigning Warrick Holdman fills the need..

Addressing LaVar's signing with the Giants, Gibbs said he wishes LaVar well, that he hoped Arrington wouldn't end up in the division, but such is the case..

Gibbs said Randy Thomas is doing some sled work, he is not ready to run on his broken leg but is progressing nicely.. DE Phillip Daniels had a knee scope and is feeling better for it.. C Casey Rabach is recovering from the deep leg gash he suffered.. Gibbs believes it will be completely healed within a couple of weeks...

S Adam Archuletta has been working out with the Skins for two weeks, then he returns home for a week to do weight training on his own.. The Redskins are always pushing their players to stay in town and work out with them during the voluntary period and Gibbs stressed he hopes Archuletta would work out with them full time but didn't seem to have a beef with the training regimen..

Gibbs said he remains hopeful that Sean Taylor's case will be resolved before the start of training camp saying it would be a concern if this continues to linger into another seaosn but said he understood the reasoning behind all the delays...

Sean Taylor Trial Update

From Kevin Sheehan at Sportstalk 980

1) this morning's motion to dismiss charges was denied

2) the motion was filed because he (Sharpstein) learned that the alleged victims in the case have significant criminal records and the prosecutor failed to present this information- it's an obilgation of the prosecutor in felony trials to do so...the prosecutor (Mike Greico) said he didn't know.

3) there are 3 victims and 2 witnesses in the case against Taylor....all have varying criminal backgrounds. Four of the 5 have been arrested since the Taylor incident. Of the 3 alleged "victims", 2 (Ryan Hill and Maurice Williams) were arrested three weeks ago for stealing ATV's-same occurence which led to Taylor's alleged response on the day in question. Both have existing records, Williams for petty theft. The other victim (Julius Gardner) is currently on probation for battery on a police officer which happened the day after the Taylor incident. Both "witnesses" have made interesting life choices as well.....Xavier Gibbs., already on probation for assault, was arrested in November/'05 for stealing jewelry from a jewelry store. Terrence Randolph was arrested for loitering and prowling prior to the Taylor incident.

4) the judge this morning ordered the prosecutor (Grieco) to investigate fully the criminal backgrounds of the alleged victims and witnesses in the case and report back....

5) and finally, victim Maurice Williams filed a civil suit against Taylor which Sharpstein says gets to the crux of the issue...they want #21's money.
